Le Bistrot Du Gayot

Our concentration this trip has really been on sightseeing and walking.  We have not been very adventurous in pursuit of fine dining.  That being said, one thing we like to do is return to our favorite restaurant experience on our final night.  This way we feel that we are more assured of leaving town on a positive note.

The clear choice this trip was Le Bistrot Du Gayot (Trip Advisor Reviews).

Gayot is a square, tucked behind the Cathedral, off one of the many windy little streets in that area. We were lucky enough to stumble upon it on one of our walks, but it would be very easy to miss, it is shaded in the map below.

It seems to attract a good many locals to the four or five restaurants in the square, and seems mostly devoid of tourists. We had walked through this square during the day and read a positive review of a different restaurant (La Table du Gayot), but were not able to get a table there without a reservation.  Le Bistrot was right next to it, and the atmosphere looked just as welcoming, and we were able to sit down immediately both nights.  It had a young, casual staff, even in the kitchen (which we were able to see from our table), almost like a group of friends ran the restaurant together.  They also seemed to know most of the customers personally.

One thing we liked about the restaurant is that there was not one bad table.

Both nights we had a local Riesling that we enjoyed.  I was tempted by the steak tartare on the plates behind the wine, but decided against it.

Gina being Gina had the same thing both nights, a burger served with frites and a delicious salad, all the dishes included the same salad.

I had two different versions of beef, both very good.

The second night we had a mozzarella and tomato appetizer that was as amazing as it looks in this picture.

The desserts were also delicious.

One thing we noticed is that no one on either night was preoccupied with their cell phone at dinner (really at any place we were at), I tried to only use mine for pictures and was only moderately successful.
